Microsoft’s Xbox 360, Nintendo’s Wii and Sony’s Playstation 3 are all competing to increase their online gaming community. Nintendo Wii and Sony Playstation offer online multiplayer for free. Xbox 360 on the other hand charges its members 60 bucks or 4600 Microsoft points a year. Before buying a gaming console many gamers consider which online gaming experience is better.
Let me set the record straight, you get what your pay for. Sony’s Playstation Network was hacked in May of 2011 by an outside hacker. As a result Sony shut down its live gaming network for almost two months. Users were furious, that their sensitive personal information was lost to Chinese hackers. Many gamers rely on the network to play games online.
Sony’s Playstation Network was already struggling to keep its free members before the hack. The Playstation Network is loaded with bugs and glitches. It operates on the older Playstaion 2 servers, which cant handle state of the art games like Call of Duty Black Ops. Most of the time members are stuck waiting in game lobbies. They’re are waiting for other players to join so game can start. Match making is nearly impossible as servers get overloaded during peak hours.
The Wii network didn’t get hacked thank God. But the quality of online gameplay is even below the Playstation Network. It lags 100% of the time and can’t consistently host a full size game without eventually crashing. The only game the performs decent is Mario cart due to lower quality graphics.
Xbox 360 may not be free but its quality of online game play is unmatched by Sony or Nintendo. On February 5th 2010 Microsoft announced 23 million members worldwide. Gamers vote with their dollar and Xbox live came out 1st. Not only are the servers better, they can actually change hosts while you’re in a game. This mean no more online games crashes. Most Xbox live users can find a game within minutes. Xbox live is also an online store front where you can download games and movies straight to your hard drive using Microsoft points. Gamers can now take a break from gaming and watch the newest flick. Xbox Live is the clear choice for gamer around the world.
